Just think how exciting it was for loggers in the 1890's when the "old log getter" was commissioned as the first donkey engine of its kind used in British Columbia. Loggers of the day must have lavished tender loving care on the state-of-the-art equipment and other examples such as "Climax", "Sandy", "Little Tugger", and "Old Faithful" which are on display at The BC Forest Discovery Centre.

"Old One-Spot", a forty-five ton, forty-six horse powered 2 truck Shay built in 1911, transported logs out of remote locations. A 1918 one-ton Maxwell truck with wooden wheels spent years hauling telephone poles and pilings throughout the Cowichan Valley. In its day the biggest logging truck on Vancouver Island was a 1919 five-ton “Republic” with solid rubber rear tires and pneumatic front tires. The example we have on display is from the Sooke area. All these and many other historical marvels of transportation history are also on display at the BC Forest Discovery Centre.
