Bunkhouses
These bunkhouses were built for
the Victoria Lumber & Manufacturing Company in the 1930’s
and used in Copper Canyon (10 miles west of the Discovery
Centre along the Chemainus River).
Notice the skids on the bottom
of these buildings. Early logging camps were located along
rail lines. Buildings with skids could be loaded onto flat
rail cars and moved from one camp location to another. Once
located, boardwalks were used to connect the buildings.
