Bird Watching

The museum's 100-acre site boasts spectacular bird watching opportunities!  The mature second growth forest bordering 40 acres of wetlands creates an ideal habitat for a variety of species including raptors and waterfowl.

The winter wetlands provide breeding habitat for the Great Blue Heron who  share the area with Trumpeter Swans and a wide variety of other waterfowl such as the Tufted Duck, Great Egret, White-faced Ibis, Black-crowned Night-Heron.

The forest is home to a breeding pair of  Great Horned Owls and a young pair of Bald Eagles regularly attempt nesting in black cottonwoods on the lower grounds.
